What Does a Website Carbon Report Include?

Every time someone visits a webpage, data travels from a server through a network to a device. Each step consumes electricity — and electricity, depending on how it's generated, produces CO₂. Your report measures the total data transferred per page load and converts it into grams of CO₂ using the Sustainable Web Design (SWD) model, the industry standard for estimating digital carbon emissions.

We load the page in a real browser and intercept every network request — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, and third-party scripts — to give you the true weight of your page, not an estimate based on page size alone.

Your A–D Sustainability Rating

Every scan produces a letter grade based on CO₂ per page view:

A

Excellent

< 0.2g CO₂ per page view

B

Good

0.2g – 0.5g CO₂ per page view

C

Needs Work

0.5g – 1.0g CO₂ per page view

D

Poor

> 1.0g CO₂ per page view

The average website produces around 0.5g CO₂ per page view — a C rating. The top 10% of websites emit less than 0.09g.

Why Website Carbon Testing Matters

The internet produces roughly 2–4% of global CO₂ emissions — comparable to the aviation industry. As businesses face pressure from investors, clients, and regulators to report on their digital footprint, website carbon measurement is quickly becoming a baseline expectation in ESG reporting.

Beyond compliance, leaner websites load faster. A page that produces 0.1g of CO₂ typically loads in under 2 seconds — better for users, better for SEO, and better for the planet.
